1. Introduction
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the MOTChecker.co.uk website and services (the "Service") operated by Sawtry Media Limited ("we", "us", "our"), a company registered in England and Wales under Company Number 05080337, with its registered office at Eco Innovation Centre, Peterscourt, City Road, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, PE1 1SA. VAT Registration Number: GB200017196.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. The Service
MOTChecker.co.uk provides the following for UK registered vehicles:
- Free MOT and tax check: current MOT and tax status, expiry dates and basic vehicle details
- Free tyre size check: tyre and wheel fitment information
- Free MOT station finder: MOT test centres by postcode, town or location
- Car valuations: estimated valuation figures for a vehicle at a given mileage, for a one-off fee
- Free account: a Garage to save vehicles and optional tax and MOT reminders by email or SMS
Information is sourced from official government sources and trusted industry data providers.
3. Free Checks and Fair Use
The MOT and tax check and the tyre size check are free and do not need an account. To keep the Service free and available, each visitor can check a limited number of different vehicles per day (currently 5, combined across both checks). Checking the same vehicle again on the same day does not count towards the limit. We may change these limits, temporarily pause new checks, or limit access where we detect automated or excessive use.
4. Accounts
An account is free and is needed to buy a valuation or use the Garage and reminders. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or are used for fraudulent, abusive or unlawful purposes. You can ask us to close your account at any time.
5. Car Valuations
5.1 Price and Payment
Each valuation is a one-off purchase at the price shown before you pay (currently £1 including VAT). There are no subscriptions, credits or recurring charges. Payment is taken by Stripe on a secure checkout page.
5.2 What You Get
A valuation provides estimated figures for the vehicle at the mileage you enter, which may include retail, private sale, trade and part exchange values. Before you pay, we check whether a valuation is available for the vehicle; if it is not, you will not be charged. Viewing your own valuation again for the same vehicle and mileage within 24 hours is free. A valuation at a different mileage is a new purchase.
Your valuations are linked to your account and can only be viewed by you.
5.3 Right to Cancel
A valuation is digital content supplied immediately after payment. By completing your purchase, you request immediate supply and acknowledge that you lose your 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 once the valuation has been provided to you.
5.4 Refunds
If you have paid and we are unable to provide valuation figures, or the valuation is faulty, please contact us at hello@motchecker.co.uk and we will refund you. Otherwise, valuations that have been provided are not refundable simply because you disagree with the figures or no longer need them. This does not affect your statutory rights. Refunded valuations are no longer viewable.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Access the Service through automated means (bots, scrapers, scripts) without our written permission
- Circumvent or attempt to circumvent usage limits, anti-spam measures or security controls
- Resell, redistribute or commercially exploit data obtained from the Service without our written permission
- Use the Service to harass, stalk or intimidate any person
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
7. Data Accuracy and Disclaimer
Information on the Service comes from third-party sources. While we aim to present accurate and up-to-date information, we do not guarantee that any data shown is accurate, complete, current or error-free.
MOT and tax status, vehicle details, tyre sizes and valuations may contain errors, omissions or outdated information. Tyre sizes should be confirmed against the tyres fitted to the vehicle before buying. Valuations are estimates only and are not an offer to buy or sell; the actual price a vehicle achieves will depend on its condition, history, specification, location and market conditions.
The Service is for information only and does not constitute professional advice. It is not a substitute for a physical inspection, an independent mechanical assessment, a vehicle history check or any other professional evaluation. You should carry out your own checks before making any decision.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sawtry Media Limited, its directors, officers, employees and agents shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for:
- Financial loss arising from reliance on data provided by the Service
- Loss arising from the purchase or sale of a vehicle based on information obtained from the Service
- Loss arising from inaccurate, incomplete or outdated vehicle, tyre or valuation data
- Loss arising from service interruptions or unavailability
- Loss of data, profits, revenue or business opportunity
Where we are liable in connection with a paid valuation, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for that valuation.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by English law, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
9. Tax and MOT Reminders
Where you opt in to tax or MOT expiry reminders by email or SMS, these are provided free as a convenience only. We do not guarantee that reminders will be sent, delivered or received on time, and we accept no liability for any loss, fine, penalty or consequence arising from missed, delayed or undelivered reminders. It remains your responsibility to make sure your vehicle tax and MOT are renewed on time.
10. Third-Party and Partner Links
The Service contains links to third-party websites, including GOV.UK, MOT test centres, partner retailers and our sister websites. Some links to partners may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. We are not responsible for the content, products, prices or practices of third-party sites, and any purchase you make there is between you and that third party.
11. Intellectual Property
All content, design, logos, trademarks, images and software on the Service are the property of Sawtry Media Limited or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Vehicle images on the Service are illustrative and may not show the exact vehicle checked. You may not reproduce, distribute or create derivative works without our written permission.
12. Changes to the Service
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. If we stop offering valuations, any valuation you have already paid for and not received will be refunded.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. The Terms in force when you buy a valuation apply to that purchase.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, although if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
