Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about checking your car, MOT history, valuations and more.

MOT & Tax

Enter your registration number on our car check page and we'll show you the full MOT history including pass/fail results, advisories, dangerous defects and failure items dating back years. All data comes directly from the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency).

Run a free car check and we'll show you the exact MOT expiry date along with the current MOT status. You can also save your car to your garage and we'll send you an email or SMS reminder before it expires so you never miss your MOT.

Our car check shows real-time road tax status pulled directly from the DVLA. You'll see whether the vehicle is currently taxed, the tax expiry date, and the annual tax rate based on CO2 emissions or engine size.

Driving without a valid MOT is illegal and can result in a fine of up to £1,000. Your car insurance may also be invalidated. You can drive to a pre-booked MOT test without a valid certificate, but the vehicle must be roadworthy. Use our MOT station finder to book a test near you.

The most common MOT failures are lighting and signalling faults (bulbs, indicators), suspension issues (worn shock absorbers, springs), brake problems (worn pads, discs, fluid leaks), tyre defects (tread depth below 1.6mm, damage), and windscreen issues (chips in the driver's field of vision). Our car check report highlights any previous MOT failures and advisories to help you prepare.

Car Checks

Yes. Every user gets 3 free credits per day to run car checks, tyre lookups and valuations. MOT station searches are always free. If you need more credits, you can subscribe to a plan or buy individual credits from 50p each.

A full car check includes MOT history with advisories and failures, real-time tax and MOT status, mileage analytics with anomaly detection, vehicle specifications (engine, performance, dimensions), running costs, ULEZ compliance, NCAP safety ratings, keeper history and more — all from official DVLA and DVSA data.

All data is sourced from official UK government services including the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) and DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency), supplemented by trusted industry data providers for valuations, tyre specifications and technical data. Results are checked in real time, every time.

Our car check includes an interactive mileage chart that plots every recorded odometer reading from MOT tests over time. We also run anomaly detection to flag potential mileage clocking or inconsistencies — essential when buying a used car.

Valuations

Our valuations are based on current market data and adjusted for your car's actual mileage. We provide multiple values including private sale, dealer forecourt, part-exchange and trade prices to give you a complete picture of what your car is worth.

A car valuation costs 2 credits. You can use your free daily credits or purchase additional credits at 50p each. Subscriptions include bonus monthly credits for regular users.

Tyres

Enter your registration on our tyre check page and we'll show you the manufacturer's original tyre sizes, pressures, speed ratings and rim specifications for every factory-fitted option on your car.

The legal minimum tyre tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, around the entire circumference. Driving with tyres below this limit is an MOT failure and can result in a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points per tyre.

MOT Stations

Use our MOT station finder to search by postcode, town or city. You can also use your device's location to find the nearest testing centres. Filter by vehicle class to find stations that test your type of vehicle. All data comes from official DVSA records.

Account & Credits

Everyone gets 3 free credits per day that reset at midnight. A car check or tyre lookup costs 1 credit, and a valuation costs 2 credits. If you need more, you can subscribe to a monthly plan for bonus credits or buy individual credits at 50p each. MOT station searches are always free.
